The Cardinals Manager started off well, but since that first season…
When Marmol took the reins as Cardinals Manager ahead of the 2022 season, St. Louis was coming off a stretch of postseason frustration. He immediately made an impact, guiding the team to 93 wins and a playoff berth. Since then, the road hasn’t been easy. Two fire sales in three years, limited offseason spending from ownership, and roster inconsistencies have made his job one of the toughest in the National League. But despite all that, Marmol has kept the Cardinals competitive — and that says a lot about his ability to manage.

Through nearly four full seasons, Marmol holds a 309-303 record. That includes the rough 2023 campaign, where the Cardinals stumbled to 71-91, yet bounced back the following year to finish above .500. If they do it again this season, it will further underline the point: Marmol squeezes as much as possible out of every roster he’s handed.
Of course, there’s still plenty of uncertainty surrounding his future. With Chaim Bloom set to take over as president of baseball operations this offseason, speculation about whether Marmol will remain in the dugout is only growing louder. But if you ask him? He’s not losing any sleep over it.
Oli Marmol sat down with Baseball Insider Ken Rosenthal to discuss his future
In an interview with the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Marmol shrugged off the “hot seat” talk with trademark confidence.
“I don’t worry about it. I never have. And I hope I never do,” Marmol said. “I’ve been managing for four years. I have everything I need. I don’t ever worry about my status. I know what I’m good at. I know what I’m not good at. And I’m comfortable with it. Things tend to work out.”
That calm, no-nonsense attitude has defined his leadership style. At just 39 years old, Marmol has already shown he can handle the chaos of trades, injuries, and clubhouse challenges without letting the noise define him. He’s not chasing titles like “youngest manager” or obsessing over job security — he’s focused on guiding his players and getting the best out of them.
There are rumors of an extension for Marmol
Will Marmol manage the Cardinals in 2026?
For now, his future with the Cardinals is undecided. But one thing is certain: Marmol has earned respect across the league for steering St. Louis through stormy waters. If the front office decides to move in a different direction, it won’t be because Marmol didn’t pour everything into this franchise.
Whether he’s back in 2026 or not, Marmol has already left his mark as one of the most underrated managers in Major League Baseball.
